Man Is a Spirit
MAN IS A SPIRIT
See why man is a spirit, he has a soul, and he lives in a body.
Corporeal and Non-Corporeal Bodies:
The narrative told by Jesus in Luke 16 is about Lazarus, Abraham, and the rich man. Each man died, each body was buried in the earth. Yet, each man had a body in the place where he went after death, this proves that the real man is a spirit. The rich man lifted up his eyes in hell, and he wanted water to cool his tongue. Lazarus rested on the chest of Father Abraham, and he had fingers, each man had a non-corporeal body that resembled their physical body on earth. Even though they were in non-corporeal bodies, they had senses similar to the physical body. They could see, hear, taste, touch, feel, they could think and reason.
We conclude from this story that man has a spirit body that resembles his physical body, and when we die our spirit body separates from the physical body.
I Can Not Tell:
Paul is transported into heaven and could not tell whether he was in his physical body or his spirit body. Therefore, we do not lose heart. Although outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 2 Cor. 4:16 (NIV) Paul felt no difference in terms of his self-awareness; “I cannot tell”. (2 Cor. 12:3 KJV). The Rich man also had self-awareness in his non-physical body.
The Hidden Man:
Peter calls the spirit the hidden man of the heart, “but let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price (1 Peter 3:4 KJV); So both Paul and Peter refer to the spirit as a man.
The Old Man and the New Man:
Paul, when talking about the human spirit before conversion, calls it the old man, and the body of sin. “Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin (Romans 6:6 NKJV).” Sin is the nature of the old man created in the image of Adam. While the new man is righteous and created in the image of Christ. … “put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him (Col. 3:10).
Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous. Romans 5:19 (NLT)
Man is a spirit, he has a soul, and he lives in a body:
Both the inward man and the outward man have senses. Those who are mature in Christ, have through constant practice learned how to distinguish what senses are from their flesh, and what senses are from their spirit (Heb. 5:14). As new persons in Christ we are constantly learning how to walk in the Spirit, so we will not fulfill the lust of the flesh (Gal. 5:16). There is a constant battle between your spirit and your flesh, and the battle ground takes place in your mind.
The spirit man is born in sin and therefore must be born again. The rebirth of the spirit man is also call a baptism. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit. 1 Cor. 12:13 (NLT)
